In 2017/18 Dionysios served as the president of the Oxford Advertising and Marketing Society. He has previously worked as a marketing intern for KEEN Oxford, devising a new marketing scheme, for Enterprising Oxford, offering consulting on branding and strategy, and for Bibliotech, performing market research, helping with the organisation of an advertising campaign, and developing and driving forward a new growth strategy. He has also interned at the Early Music Journal, Oxford University Press, advising on social media strategy and starting the journal’s Twitter account.

Dionysios studied acting and singing in Athens, before continuing his performance studies at City University London and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. In 2014 he graduated with an MPhil in Music Studies from the University of Cambridge and is currently a doctoral student at the University of Oxford, working on rhetoric, historical gesture and persuasion. Last summer he studied Mandarin at Zhejiang University, in Hangzhou, China, and attended the Antai Global Summer Program at the Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. During his time in China Dionysios taught an Executive MBA class at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

He attended the Building a Business Lecture Series at the Saïd Business School, took part at the Insight Into Business Programme run by the Oxford University Careers Service, and studied at the Foundation of Strategy course taught by Professor Teppo Felin at the Saïd Business School. He has also worked as a consultant for The Student Consultancy, advising Jaguar Land Rover’s Human Resources department on fragmented recruitment technology and employee engagement, and as the team leader he coordinated six student consultants advising Oxfam on sponsorship and partnerships. He has also worked as the production consultant of a BBC Radio 4 documentary.

Having founded Theatron Novum, his own student theatre and opera production company, Dionysios has experienced first hand how to launch, expand and manage a student initiative. He has recently spearheaded the resurrection of the Oxford Advertising and Marketing Society (OxAdSoc) which involved recruiting a diverse team, creating new branding, logos, website and social media strategy, as well as forging partnerships with institutions and companies.

Dionysios has worked for five years as an opera singer, singing in 161 performances in the UK and abroad, participating in 46 opera productions and performing 23 principal roles, and for four years he worked as a stage director for opera and theatre, directing 18 shows and leading creative and production teams in venues including the Oxford Playhouse, King’s Place London and Teatro Principal de Burgos, Spain. He has also taught acting extensively.

During his years working in the arts sector he has always been heavily involved in marketing: working with design and marketing teams to produce posters, flyers, websites and social media campaigns, creating company names and logos, and finding exciting new strategies to gain and retain new audiences. Like marketing, performing and directing is all about telling stories, moving people and creating a strong emotional imprint. After the end of his academic studies Dionysios is interested in pursuing a career in advertising and marketing.

“Dionysios completed an internship with us at KEEN in the summer of 2018, making a hugely valuable contribution to the development of our fundraising strategy. This included work on the underlying strategy itself, specifically in relation to the creation and launch of a new Patron and Supporters Scheme and our use of Social Media. It also involved work on key elements of our marketing, branding, and communications.

It was clear that these are all areas that Dionysios has both a passion and flair for, and his work with us was of an extremely high quality. I am particularly grateful for his professional approach, attention to detail, and ability to communicate effectively within our team, which made him a pleasure to work with.

The brief was a demanding one with a quick turnaround, and required the integration of careful market research, Dionysios' existing expertise in the area of patronage within the arts and not-for-profit sector, and a range of further skills in marketing and communications. With great patience and attentiveness to our specific requirements, Dionysios helped to lay out an exciting strategy, implementation plan, and associated resources that form the foundations of our Supporters Scheme, which is now being launched in phases

“
Dionysios completed an internship at Bibliotech, working on marketing and growth, and helping with the organisation of a publicity campaign. He has also independently come up and presented to me an idea for a new development strategy which I decided to take forward to the pilot stage. Dionysios is a great communicator, he is responsible and confident, and deals well with multitasking. He showed great initiative and a flair for marketing, media and technology, and he has the skills and maturity to become a great asset to any organisation.”

“Dionysios worked with Enterprising Oxford as part of the University of Oxford Micro-Internship Programme, helping to analyse data from the website and social media channels. His knowledge of Google Analytics was invaluable and provided some really interesting insights into our user base. He was also able to provide a set of reports which included key action points for me to follow up on (around branding, social media, and content), most of which were easily actionable with great impact. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him on this project, and know he would make a very valuable addition to any team.”

- Leah Thomson, Manager, Enterprising Oxford

“Dionysios gave me the idea and several points of inspiration on how to apply drama skills, especially the body movement and gestures, to the training of business leaders in China. This is a brand new and exciting concept, especially for the Chinese business world.

Through an amalgamation of a plethora of creative ideas, Dionysios and I run a 3-hour long event for the EMBA students of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (No 7 World Wide Ranking, FT, 2016). The event was very successful and Dionysios’  rich experiences on opera performing and directing, together with his expertise on rhetorical gestures and persuasion, made a great impression to the Chinese business executives.

Dionysios was a shining star on this platform, as I assume he was shining as an opera director and singer on the stage.

“Dionysios brought an idea to us for a Radio Documentary for BBC Radio 4. It was a good idea to begin with but he also responded very positively as we worked together to improve it and make it the best it could possibly be. He grasped what was necessary and how to turn his academic work into something that would appeal to a wide audience. He had a very good sense of what we needed and was very conscientious in providing additional information and ideas to make the programme really work.

Once the idea had been commissioned, he brought a great deal of energy to the production. He was able to draw on a wide range of contacts to find the right people to speak to and to perform at a concert we had to organise. He is very personable to work with and gave of his own time unstintingly to make sure that the programme was as strong as it could possibly be.

He is a great team player. Although it was his idea and his research that we were making the programme about, he always put the requirements of the programme first. He refused to be ruffled by some of the stresses that are an inevitable part of programme-making and poured oil on troubled waters more than once to ensure the smooth running of the operation.

He was also very pro-active at publicising the programme, making good use of social media and previous contacts. And we also drew on his expertise to make the music from the concert available on YouTube.

One comment from a listener was that it was his infectious enthusiasm balanced with the right amount of authority that gave the programme its appeal. He was a delight to work with and I hope that we might have a long collaboration with him in whatever field his future lies. We certainly wish him all the best.
